What are the textile organotin tests?

What are organotin compounds?
Organotin compounds are a family of chemicals including tributyltin (TBT), dibutyltin (DBT), triphenyltin (TPhT), monobutyltin (MBT) and dioctyltin (DOT).
Hazards of Organic Compounds
Some organotin compounds may have adverse health effects and are known to be toxic and mutagenic to human health and the environment, and they can harm the environment, including water supplies and aquatic life.
Why do products need to be tested for organotin?
The EU Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 Annex XVII on the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) sets out the prohibition of the use of organotin compounds, which is directly applicable to all EU Member States. Organotin compounds must not be used as fungicides/bactericides in coatings. In addition, they must not be placed on the market or used as antifouling substances:
All vessels for marine, coastal, estuarine and inland waterways and lakes;
Cages, buoys, nets and any other utensils or equipment used for raising fish or shellfish;
Any fully or partially submerged installation or equipment.
